This tour takes you to two of the most beautiful traditional villages of the Mesis Region of Corfu island, Synarades and Garouna. Both villages are renowned for their typical Corfiot architecture, sharing many common elements with the Venetian style, and their traditional character. The locals there still go through daily life at a much more relaxed and slower pace; you will see old men playing backgammon at the local coffee shop, old women going around their daily chores in traditional dress, the local priest in full attire discussing the daily issues and practical problems with the villagers.
On arrival at the village of Synarades, you will be taken to visit the local Folklore Museum; it is an 18th cent building, originally an old village house, which has been fully renovated preserving the original style, building methods and materials. Inside, it has been set up to re-enact the look and feel of a traditional village home of the early 19th cent.; you will see all the typical furniture, utensils, fabrics and tools used commonly and daily of the era.
After your visit, you will take a short walk around the village in the company of your guide. You will then be driven to the village of Garouna, where you will first be taken to the local cellar where the old women of the village still sew carpets in the traditional method.
Following your visit at the cellar, you will be taken to the local traditional coffee shop of Manelouzos, with its large outdoor terrace offering spectacular view to the bay of St. Gordis, where you will enjoy a glass of local wine and a small plate of meze.
